Bois de Boulogne
While entry to the overall park is free, there are several attractions within it that have entry fees or opening times: the Jardin d'Acclimatation, which is aimed at children; the excellent Musée National des Arts et Traditions Populaires; the beautiful floral displays of the Parc de Bagatelle; and the racecourses at Longchamp and Auteuil. You can also partake of a wealth of activities: there's a riding school, a bowling alley, bike rental (for which you'll need to leave your passport as security) at the entrance to the Jardin d'Acclimatation and 14km of cycling routes; andboating on the Lac Inférieur. The best, and wildest, part for walking is towards the southwest corner.

Jardins Albert Khan

The four hectares (eight acres) of gardens, painstakingly restored and maintained in the spirit of their creator, show the different aspects of the art of gardening in the early 20th century.

Once passed doors of the exhibition gallery, visitors are in the Japanese parts: the old village, filled with temples, lanterns, stone paths edged, and the contemporary garden, a tribute to Albert Kahn’s life, with azaleas, and streams crossed by stone or timber bridges. Bamboo gates mark the entrance to formal French gardens, on the left, with a greenhouse, orchard, and rose garden, and to English garden, on the right (with green grass, false rock and cottage). Then, a forest of Blue Atlas cedars and Colorado spruces, whose low branches screen a small lily pond surrounded by a wild meadow. After crossing the meadow and passing through a group of slender birches, paths lead to a vast forest of conifers planted on steep, rocky soil, a reproduction of the Vosges Mountains near Kahn birthplace. Before 1936, when it opened to the public, this space devoted to world peace was visited only by dignitaries including various poets, philosophers (as Tagore) and Kings.

Musée Belmondo

The City of Light is still far from being thought of as the Region of Light, nevertheless Boulogne-Billancourt is well on its way to being a full

fledged part of Greater Paris. One small light was switched on this week with the opening of the Paul Belmondo Museum inBoulogne-Billancourt.

The museum, housed in little neo-Classical “folly” or pleasure palace, presents the work of Paul Belmondo (1898-1982), a sculptor (primarily) who maintained a devotion to the traditions of 18th-century classicism and antiquity at a time when many of his contemporaries were exploring
and creating other movements and inspirations.
